A.H.E.R.A.

Revere School District has completed the necessary inspection and management plans as required by the A.H.E.R.A. (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) legislation. The coordinator for the District is the Superintendent. The Management Plans and Inspection Reports are available for each building at the offices of the respective school buildings. A copying fee will be required if copies are reports or sections thereof are requested. Questions regarding this notification may be directed to the District Office, 970-463-5477.

Notice to Parents Regarding Sex Offender Registry

Colorado statutes require that each public school in the state give parents a statement identifying where and the procedures by which they may obtain information about registered sex offenders. The responsibility for preparing this statement rests with the Sex Offender Management Board. The Sex Offender Management Board has prepared a 20-page "School Resource Guide to Sex Offender Registration." This document can be found in .PDF format on the Sex Offender Management Board's website or the Colorado Department of Education website.

Student Records

Student education records are maintained by the Revere School District in accordance with the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and the Colorado Open Records Law. Parents or legal guardians and eligible students, eighteen years of age or older, have the right to inspect and review the student’s educational records and to seek amendment of records which they believe to be inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of applicable law. Access to or requests to amend student records shall be initiated in writing through the principal of the school attended by the student or the supervisor of student records for special programs. Except as allowed by law, parents or legal guardians and eligible students have the right to consent to the disclosure of certain personally identifiable information contained in a student’s education records. Board of Education Policy and Regulation JRA and JRA-R contain more specific information regarding student education records. These documents are available at Revere School, 500 Main Street, Ovid, CO  80744 or online at www.revereschool.com  Complaints of alleged failure of the District to follow the requirements of the Family Education and Privacy Act may be filed with the Family Policy Compliance Office, 400 Maryland Avenue, SW, Washington, D.C. 20002‑4605.

Education records of a student may be disclosed without the consent of a parent or student over 18 to the following individuals: School officials within or specifically authorized by the District who have a legitimate educational interest in the information disclosed; school officials of another school or school district to which the student moves, transfers, makes application to transfer or otherwise seeks to enroll; federal, state and local authorities as permitted by law; representatives of entities to which a student has applied for or has received financial aid when the disclosure is for the purpose of determining the amount, conditions, eligibility or enforcement of the terms of the financial aid; crediting organizations; testing and research organizations so long as confidentiality is maintained and the organizations are required to destroy records after they are no longer needed; in connection with a health or safety emergency; and in connection with a court order or lawfully issued subpoena. In addition, and in accordance with state law, the names, addresses and home telephone numbers of a secondary school student shall be released to military recruiting officers for any branch of the United States Armed Forces within 90 days of a request therefor unless the parent submits a request in writing, that such information not be released.

The School District may also disclose directory information without the consent of a parent or student over 18. Directory information includes, without limitation, the student’s name, gender, date and place of birth; participation in officially recognized sports and activities; height and weight of athletic team members; dates of attendance; and degrees, awards, honors and other distinctions received. If a parent or student over 18 does not wish to have this information disclosed as directory information, they may notify the principal of the building where the student attends school within 15 days of receiving this notice. The parent/student notification must be in writing and must specifically state the information which the parent or student over 18 does not want disclosed.

Protection of Pupil Rights

Colorado Revised Statute § 22-1-123 and 20 USC 1232h give parents/legal guardians, as well as students who are over 18 years of age, certain rights regarding surveys and the collection and use of information for marketing purposes.

The District shall obtain written consent from a student’s parent/guardian or students themselves, if 18 years of age or older, whenever a student participates in a survey, analysis or evaluation intended to reveal information, whether personally identifiable or not, concerning the student’s or the parent’s/guardians:

  • Political beliefs or affiliations;

  • Mental or psychological conditions;

  • Sexual behavior or attitudes;

  • Illegal, anti-social, self-incriminating or demeaning behavior;

  • Critical appraisals of individuals with whom the student or parent/guardian has close family relationships;

  • Legally recognized privileged or analogous relationships, such as those of lawyers, physicians, and members of the clergy;

  • Religious practices, affiliations or beliefs;

  • Income, other than that required by law to determine eligibility for participation in a particular program or for receiving financial assistance under such program.

Parents/guardians and students who are 18 years of age or older, have the right to receive notice and opt to have their child, or themselves, not participate in the following:

  • Any other protected information survey; or

  • Activities involving collection, disclosure, or use of personal information obtained from students for marketing or to sell or distribute the information to others.

Parents/guardians and students who are 18 years of age or older, have the right to inspect, upon request, the following documents:

  • Protected information surveys of students;

  • Instruments used to collect personal information from students for any marketing, sales, or distribution activities referred to above; and

  • Instructional material used as part of the educational curriculum.

Assessments

Revere School District uses the following assessment programs to measure student growth each year and to help identify instructional strategies for students:

Local Assessments

STAR Renaissance: Students K-6 are progress monitored on a weekly, biweekly, and/or monthly basis.

NWEA Assessments: Students in grades K-11 are assessed three times a year to measure reading, language, math and science levels. Assessment time is approximately 60 minutes per student in each area in the Fall, Winter, and Spring.

CogAT Assessment: Students in grades 2 and 6 are given this assessment to help identify gifted and talented status. Assessment time is approximately 3 sets of 30 minute sections.

State Assessments

WIDA Screener: Students who indicate a home language other than English upon registering are given this assessment to measure English language proficiency. Approximate assessment time is 60 minutes.

WIDA ACCESS: Assessment given to students who are not fluent in English. Students who are not fluent in English take this assessment in January. Assessment time is approximately 4 sets of 30 minute sections

CMAS Science: Science: Grades 5, 8 and 11. State science tests measuring the Colorado Academic Standards were administered online in Colorado for the first time in the 2013-14 school year. The Colorado Department of Education, testing contractor Pearson, and Colorado educators collaborated to develop these assessments, ensuring alignment to the new standards, as well as innovative ways of measuring knowledge and understanding.

CMAS Language Arts (ELA) and Math: Grades 3 through 8. As required by law, Colorado’s tests in English language arts and math were developed in collaboration with a consortium of states, known as PARCC, that came together to develop a shared way to measure how students are performing academically based on more rigorous college and career ready standards. Colorado is a member of PARCC’s governing board and Colorado educators were highly involved in the development of the tests.

CoAlternate: Alternate assessments are given to students on modified curriculum.

College Preparatory Exam:  Students in grades 9 and 10 take the PSAT.

College Entrance Exam: Students in grade 11 take the SAT exam.
